IPv6 delay and loss performance evolution
نویسندگان
چکیده
Although packet delay and loss are two important parameters of the Internet performance, to the best of our knowledge, the evolution of large-scale IPv6 delay and loss performance has previously not been studied. In this paper, we analyze more than 600 end-to-end IPv6 paths between about 26 testboxes of RIPE Network Coordination Centre over two years, and compare the delay and loss performance over time with their IPv4 counterparts. We present and discuss the measurement methodologies and show that IPv6 paths have a higher delay and loss than their IPv4 counterparts. The main reason for the worse performance stems from IPv6-in-IPv4 tunnels rather than from native IPv6 paths and such tunnels are still widely used today. Copyright q 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Performance Analysis of Traffic Engineering (TE) in IPv6 with IPv4 over Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)
The emergence of next generation protocol (IPv6) and MPLS has been seen as technologies that will drive the next generation networks. Together with Traffic Engineering (TE), Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for high bandwidth consuming flows as well as optimization of network performance can be achieved. Traffic engineering delivers the traffic flows in a network without jamming and provid...
متن کاملA Secure Relay-Assisted Handover Protocol for Proxy Mobile IPv6 in 3GPP LTE Networks
The LTE (Long Term Evolution) technologies defined by 3GPP is the last step toward the 4th generation (4G) of radio technologies designed to increase the capacity and speed of mobile telephone networks. Mobility management for supporting seamless handover is the key issue for the next generation wireless communication networks. The evolved packet core (EPC) standard adopts the proxy mobile IPv6...
متن کاملModeling and performance analysis for IPv6 traffic with multiple QoS classes
This paper focuses on the modeling and performance analysis for IPv6 traf®c with multi-class QoS in virtual private networks (VPN). The multi-class QoS is implemented on differentiated service basis using priority scheme of 4 bits de®ned in the packet header of IPv6. A VPN-enabled IP router is modeled as a tandem queuing system in which each output link consists of two parallel priority output ...
متن کاملFast Proxy Mobile IPv6
Current IP-level mobility protocols have difficulties meeting the stringent handover delay requirements of future wireless networks. At the same time they do not give sufficient control to the network to control the handover process. This paper presents an extension to Proxy Mobile IP, which is the favorite IP level mobility protocol for the 3GPP System Architecture Evolution / Long Term Evolut...
متن کاملAdvance duplicate address detection (DAD) and buffering-based provision of seamless handover in mobile IPV6
Due to the concerns about the imminent crunch in available addresses in the previous version of Internet Protocol, IPv4, and to offer additional functionalities for new devices, IPv6 was proposed. Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), an extension to IPv6, manages Mobile Nodes’ movements between wireless IPv6 networks. One of the most important considerations for Mobile IPv6 is handover management. It is desire...
